Life 3: Taking a Stand

I logged onto the same server that I had been playing, but tonight it only had 3-5 people on it instead of the 25-35 it previously had.  I thought that would leave me with plenty of uncontested loot, but really I did not come away with much.

With my new backpack on my shoulders, I pushed uphill to the north northwest from the roadside restaurant.  It didn't take long before there was not a structure in sight.  The woods are actually very peaceful when you are alone and not being chased by zombies or shot at.

After some time, I notice the woods to my east are thinning, and I catch a glimpse of a building.  I head that way, and at the edge of the woods I find myself looking down on another small village surrounded by fields.  I make my way in.  My searching turns up some canned spaghetti and canned tuna, which thanks to my can-opener I thoroughly enjoy.  I find a black sweatshirt, and op for it over my bright yellow rain coat.  Hopefully I will stand out less.  I find some more 7.62mm ammo, a can of propane, a battery, and a bayonet.  I also find a road sign.  This is the village of Staroye.

I'm starting to really need a drink, so I hunt through the streets until I spot a water pump.  I had not seen a soul living or dead the whole time, but as soon as I stoop to pump some water for myself I hear a gurgling growl from behind me.

I take one more quick gulp, and then I sprint off to the woods, making a long circle almost 200 meters in diameter, coming back around to the pump.  It seems like I lost the zombie, so I drink a bit more.  I hear another guttural scream - its a different zombie.  I go to run the same route, but I pick up the first zombie again!

After some circling, I manage to lose both long enough to get my fill of water.  I go to check the last two buildings at the north end of town, when two more zombies begin to chase me.  Tired of playing ring around the water pump, I book it across the field north of town into the woods. I follow the northern most road from the treeline, and after a very short time, I am at an even smaller village.  The sign says it is called Shakhovka.  I find more food, and a soda to drink, but I still end up getting chased out of town by zombies.

I head north through the woods, frustrated at not finding a way to use my FNx45 yet.  I even found a holster in Shakhovka before being chased out.  I come to a field, and the road forks to the east and west in the field in front of me.  I decide to follow it east, and it leads to a "T" intersection with a few small buildings at the crossroads.  In the first building, I find a baseball bat.  I opt for it over my monkey wrench as it would seem to have more reach.  This is about the time I realize there is a zombie closing in on me.

"Screw it."  I think, as I raise the bat.  I can't just flee town every time I see a zombie.  I have noticed that the zombies can run at a good pace, but aren't very good at turning.  I sidestep in circles around the zombie, swinging my bat wildly.  I hit the zombie 3 times, 5 times, 8 times...  It seems like it will never drop, when finally a blow sends it limply to the ground.

Wait.  I feel warm blood on my clothes.
