Using the rags, I bandage the wound I received from the zombie. It doesn't appear to be serious. Feeling empowered, I finish searching the buildings at the crossroads. I find a backpack like the one I am using, but it is green instead of orange, so I go with it in hopes of blending in even better.
I follow the road east to a town called Dolina. As I reach the first few buildings, it doesn't take long for a few zombies to come running towards me. Too bad for them; I have this figured out. Using the same strategy of dancing around them as I hit them, I am able to put both zombies down without incident. I use the same tactic several more times as I scavenge the town. I find rope, disinfectant spray, a morphine injection, proper bandages, more food, a refillable water canteen, and finally - some .45 ACP ammo!
My excitement fades quickly as I realize that I still cannot use my handgun, because it apparently did not have a magazine in it when I picked it up. (In reality, I should still be able to lock the slide back and load and fire one round at a time. Well, unless the FNx 45 has a magazine disconnect safety feature. Oh well, maybe in a later release.) Dejected, I finish searching the town, and find a few water purification tablets before heading to the shade of a large oak tree north of town to plan my next move.
This was really quite a long session. I am surprised at how hard it has been to locate a functioning weapon. Granted, I have not come across any kind of military or police facility. I am also disappointed in how long it takes to kill a zombie with my bat. We have all see The Walking Dead, and we all know their heads are made of wet paper mache.
